Contact SPS Newsletter from SPS, Aug 2011

Dear member

Welcome to the SPS Newsletter for August 2011. We hope that you have had a nice and relaxing summer.

The SPS annual meeting in Bergen was a great success with over 200 participants and both interesting lectures and social activities. Even the weather showed it's best side during the whole meeting much to the surprise of the local inhabitants. The executive board wants to thank the Bergen organizing committee and all the participants for a successful meeting.

With the completion of this years meeting it is time to look ahead for the meeting next year in Helsinki, Finland. In addition to the meeting it is also time for the SPS general assembly. Read more about it in this issue.

We also want to break the the exciting news about who has been appointed the new editor-in-chief for Acta Physiologica.

If you have some interesting news you want to share, contact us and we will put it up on our webpage or Facebook Page. Do not forget that you also have the opportunity to advertise new positions here!

New editor-in-chief for Acta Physiologica

Jan Henriksson has decided to resign as editor-in-chief for Acta Physiologica in 2012. A search committee was formed to identify a suitable candidate for the post. The committee unanimously proposed Prof. Pontus Persson at the Johannes-Müller-Institute für Physiologie in Berlin as the new editor-in-chief for Acta Physiologica. During the he SPS board meeting in Bergen, the board appointed Pontus Persson, who will start to work in parallel with Jan Henriksson during the rest of 2011. He will then be proposed by the board to be elected for the period 2012-2016 at the general assembly in Helsinki next year.

Pontus Persson has strong ties to Scandinavia and is well established in his research field of cardiovascular physiology. He also has experience as chief editor (Am J Physiol, Regulatory Physiol.) and is currently review editor of Acta.

Acta digitization project

The digitization of old Acta Physiologica "Skandinavisches Archiv für Physiologie" is continuing as planned. All manuscripts from today and back to 1940 is now digitized and the process of digitizing the rest of the manuscripts, dating back to 1889, will soon start.

However, two volumes of Acta are missing, number 75 and 76 from 1936 or 1937, as well as supplement number 11, which was published together with volume 75. Therefore, we now need your help finding these. If you know where they could be, contact us and we will scan the documents and give them back in the same condition.

Poster award winners at the SPS meeting in Bergen, Aug 12-14, 2011

We want to congratulate the winners of the poster award in Bergen:

Sari Karppinen (Kuopio, Finland), Marte Bliksøen (Oslo, Norway), Kari Antero Mäkelä (Oulu, Finland), Janos Vincze (Debrecen, Hungary), Debabrata Panja (Bergen, Norway), Mirja Nurmio (Turku, Finland)
